Canucks rout Coyotes 6-0.
The Vancouver Canucks kept up their hot streak wednesday night, and Cody Hodgson scored his first NHL goal, as they destroyed the Phoenix Coyotes by an embarrassing 6-0 final score.
The Coyotes seemed to have all the advantages going into the game; the Canucks had played the night before in Dallas, and because of bad weather, the Canucks hadn't even checked into their hotel room until 3 a.m. that morning.
If they were fatigued, it didn't show.
Alex Burrows opened the scoring a little under four minutes into the game on the first Canuck shot. Daniel Sedin intercepted a clearing attempt, then fired the puck in front of the net. Burrows, screening Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, tipped the puck into the net for his thirteenth of the season, and his fourth straight game with a goal.
The rest of the period was the Roberto Luongo show. He robbed Lee Stempniak with a toe save, and made countless other terrific stops.
In the second, the Canucks got another quick start. Mason Raymond broke into the Coyotes zone, dropped the puck off to defenseman Lee Sweatt, who let a rising wrister go. Bryzgalov stopped it, let off a huge rebound, and Jannik Hansen hammered it home for his sixth of the season.
Just over ten minutes later, Cody Hodgson got on the scoresheet. The highly touted rookie took the puck in front of the net, patiently fought off a check, then whipped a perfect shot just inside the post for his first ever NHL goal. He was swarmed by teammates directly after.
In the third, Ryan Kesler got his 29th goal after Phoenix captain Shane Doan turned the puck over. Kesler pulled a beautiful toe drag move on Adrian Aucoin, then fired a shot past Bryzgalov.
Bryzgalov then gave a long, cold stare in Aucoin`s direction.
Mason Raymond scored his tenth shortly after, and in the dying minutes, Kesler scored his second to get to 30 goals for the first time in his career.
Luongo made 23 stops for his 3rd shutout of the year.
The Canucks will test themselves against an old foe, the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
Note: Alex Burrows has scored goals in four straight games.. It took Cody Hodgson two games to get his first goal... Keith Yandle, the all star, was a abysmal -4 in the game.. Daniel Sedin is one point back of leader Steven Stamkos in the Art Ross Race.
