Canucks lose to Oil again

It's a good thing these games are meaningless.

The Vancouver Canucks put forth another lack lustre effort against a horrible Oiler squad that is currently dead last in the NHL. It didn't help that the Canucks took far too many penalties, including a Raffi Torres 5 minute major with 7 minutes remaining in the game, nor did it help that the Sedin Twins and Ryan Kesler were non existent for the second straight game. I get that you've clinched the Presidents trophy, but come on guys, you get paid to play EVERY game.

Anyways, not much to recap here. At the very end of the first period, 3 second remaining, Oiler Ryan Jones snuck a puck under Vancouver goaltender's Roberto Luongo's arm, for his 18th of the year

There was no scoring in the second, and in the third, Magnus Paajarvi scored his 14th of the year on a 5 on 3 powerplay.

How we got there was an absolute joke.

First, Raffi Torres stupidly elbows Jordan Eberle in the head, getting a five minute major. With two games remaining, against the worst team in the league, you try to be a tough guy and elbow a guy in the freaking head?? Let's hope Alain Vigneault had a few words with Raffi.

Next, both Alex Burrows and Aaron Rome were given crosschecking minors on the same play, giving the oilers a 5 on 3 for four minutes. Paajarvi scored, with the assist going to the referee.

Perhaps the most infuriating aspect was on the Oilers powerplay, Mason Raymond skated in on the forecheck, held the puck on the boards, and was promptly run from behind from Kurtis Foster. Any penalty? Nope. The Oilers instead took the puck down the ice and scored.

Let's hope the referees, as well as the Canucks get their acts back together in time for the playoffs, because tonights effort was pathetic for both parties.

Devan Dubnyk stopped 26 shots for the shutout.

Note: Cory Schneider played the last thirty seconds of the game in an attempt to get him into 25 games before the seasons end in order to make him eligible for the Jennings trophy if the Canucks win it. Daniel Sedin is now pointless in back to back games

I wouldn't worry too much. The Canucks are better off taking it easy and focusing on strategy and such heading into the playoffs... especially if they're going to play the Blackhawks like I think they will.
