Can the Canucks win Game 5?

The Vancouver Canucks are one measly win away from their third ever Stanley Cup Final appearance, yet there is a nervous energy around the province of British Columbia.

There shouldn't be. The Canucks have handily out played the lack lustre San Jose Sharks squad that have their top player banged up, thanks to a hit on Joe Thornton by Raffi Torres.

The Canucks have dominated five on five, and last game they finally managed to break through on 5 on 3 powerplays. They also managed to get their penalty kill back on track, killing off five straight penalties.

However, this Canucks squad has had trouble sealing the deal when it comes to Game 5. I don't have to remind you of the first round versus the Blackhawks, when Game 5 was an embarrassing 5-0 win by their hated foe. The next round, the Predators took Vancouver to six games with a 4-2 win on the road in game 5. In fact, when you consider all the elimination games the Canucks have played this playoff, they are 2-4. (3 losses to the Blackhawks, one to the Predators.) Considering the Sharks will be playing hurt, on the road, against a Vancouver squad chock full of confidence, and Roberto Luongo coming off a brilliant performance, this looks like a slam dunk.

Then again, so did games 4-6 of the Chicago series. The Canucks will have to keep their foot on the gas pedal, something they have had trouble doing in Game 5's previous, if they want to punch their ticket to the final and undo 40 years of torture for the Vancouver faithful.
