IceCaps earn crucial double-victory over B-Sens
Eric O'Dell powered the St.John's IceCaps to two home victories against the Binghamton Senators this weekend, scoring three goals.
O'Dell netted two on Friday night, as his linemate Kael Mouillierat added a goal and two assists that night, en route to a 4-2 win. Their line has been the IceCaps best recently and displayed their potency this weekend. Mourillierat was rewarded with an AHL contract for how he has played with the IceCaps since being called up from the ECHL.
"I (signed) the contract there last week, and it's nice knowing you don't have to worry aout being sent down and stuff like that," he added.
On Saturday, O'Dell appeared to score to open the scoring for the IceCaps, but goalie interference was called. Poetic justice soon struck, as O'Dell scored shortly after off a beautiful play of determination and skill to find a hole in the B-Sens defence and capitalize on a scoring chance. That was all that was needed Saturday night, as the IceCaps came away with a 1-0 victory.
The two wins put the IceCaps at a 21-22-3 record, which is good enough for 11th in the conference.
Eddie Pasquale seems to be the number-one goalie again for the IceCaps. He posted solid numbers on the weekend sweep, allowing 2 goals in the 2 games (including a 1-0 shutout victory Saturday).
The IceCaps are now just 2 points back on the 8th-place Hershey Bears, in the East.
The 9th-place Worchester Sharks visit Tuesday and Wednesday, which could prove a decisive battle for the IceCaps to win if they hope to reach the playoffs.
