Byfuglien busted on a boat

While some Winnipeg Jets fans are still mourning the loss of teammate Rick Rypien, the pre-season isn't getting prettier for the team – as police say defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was arrested on ‘probable cause for boating while intoxicated’. This means officers have 36 hours to determine if Byfuglien will be formally charged after reviewing blood or urine tests.
The news broke early morning on September 1. The 26-year-old Jets star was arrested in Minneapolis, close to where he lives during the off-season.
He has since been released from custody.
Jets Director of Communications, Scott Brown, says he is aware of the reports and is waiting to gather more information before the club will make any statement.
Byfuglien is a Stanley Cup winner of the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks and was traded to Atlanta the following season.
He's a big player for the Jets - in more than just his size. The 6'5, 286 pound defenseman scored 20 goals and had 33 assists in over 80 games with the Thrashers in their final season.
Winnipeggers are shaking their heads to this news, just days after the sudden passing of centre Rick Rypien.
Rypien, who signed with the Jets prior to the start of this season, was found dead in his home by a family member in mid-August, 2011.
