Isles, Grabner Fly Past Jets in OT

On a day highlighted by trade talk, the Islanders escaped on the ice and prevailed in overtime after blowing another 3rd period lead. The Vanek trade is still the number 1 story in Islanders nation, but this was a great way to have some fun while Garth and company look to get a deal done.

The Islanders hit the road to western Canada for a 4 game road trip starting tonight against the Winnipeg Jets.

Strome Scores Twice In AHL All-Star Game

New York Islanders top prospect Ryan Strome continued to add to his impressive professional rookie season this past week in St. John's, Newfoundland. In the All-Star skills competition on Tuesday, Strome took a share of the accuracy shooting title and in the game on Wednesday he added 2 goals to help the AHL All-Stars down Farjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League.

Jets Hold Off Canadiens

Winnipeg Jets continued their good form on Sunday evening with a 2-1 victory over Montreal Canadiens.

The Central Division side brought up their second successive victory for Betfair punters, this time over the Atlantic team from Canada.

Blackhawks start lengthy western road trip in Calgary

The Blackhawks departed today on a 12-day, six-city road trip that will see them visit six of the seven Pacific conference teams before the Olympic break.

It's their annual "Disney on Ice" late January/early February western road swing, but this year, it has a little extra importance. The Olympics start less than two weeks from now, and the Blackhawks won't play in their own building again until March.

Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, their play has been like a roller coaster lately - solid wins versus the Bruins and Ducks; and less-than-perfect games against teams like the Jets, Red Wings, and Minnesota.

Hawks fall to Jets 3-1

In their last home game til March 4th a familiar recent script was played out again. The Hawks dominate forty minutes only to fade in the third period and lose the game. Unfortunately this time they could not even push the Winnipeg Jets to overtime or a shoot out.

There is no question the Hawks look tired and maybe a little bored. The Olympic break cannot get here quick enough or maybe road life will help to rejuvenate the struggling Hawks.

The lone Hawks tally came in the first period from Brandon Bollig. He was wrapping around the Jets’ net and as he was falling down somehow shot the puck and squeezed it past the Jets’ goalie Al Montoya and the near post.

Blackhawks looking for regular season sweep against Jets

The Blackhawks are back home in the United Center for a game before embarking on 4-game road trip, hosting the Winnipeg Jets. It’ll be their fourth and last match-up, and the second one at home for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks won all three past contests and will be raring to go tomorrow, wanting to bounce back from their past two games, which were losses for Chicago - but the Jets are also hoping to bounce back from a recent loss. They’ve been having a great streak since changing coaches, but their last contest against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday ended in a loss for Winnipeg.

Let the Debate Begin: Team Canada Final Edition

With the official announcement from Hockey Canada of the 25 players who will represent Canada at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi less than twelve hours away, here is my final edition of who I think will crack the squad.

Included with my final selections, are the players who I thought would be on the team back in July when Hockey Canada announced the 47-man summer orientation camp, that are now no longer a part of my final team.

Forwards (14):

Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars, LW (new)

Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins, C "A"

Logan Couture, San Jose Sharks, C/LW

Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, C "C"

Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks, C (new)

When Does Anders Lee Get His Chance?

With Ryan Strome now a permanent fixture with the Islanders, the main focus of the prospect pool turns to Anders Lee. Lee has been quietly productive for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and is the team point leader among players currently on the Sound Tigers' roster. So when will Anders Lee get his chance to prove himself in the NHL?
